Bowen is a natural therapy which allows the body to respond to the gentle movements of the procedure, which can be done through lightweight clothing.
The technique is performed with thumbs and fingers over the muscles and tendons. These moves send messages deep into the body, where receiving cells encourage the body’s preferred relaxed, balanced way of wellbeing. There are frequent, but very essential pauses throughout the session that allows the body time to respond and begin the healing process, guiding the body back to homeostasis.
Results can be remarkable, every session the body heals itself.
Unlike many other hands-on therapies, the Bowen technique does not use force.
The practitioner does not force the body to ‘do as it is told’, but allows the body to reset and heal itself in its own time. The technique addresses not only the musculoskeletal framework, but also the facia, nerves and internal organs.
The body’s integrated response improves circulation and lymphatic drainage, and aids nutrient absorption and elimination of toxins.

Tom Bowen created the Bowen Technique almost 30 years ago in Geelong, Victoria. Although he was not formally trained in any modality, Bowen had a genius for distinguishing patterns of muscular dysfunction, which he correlated to specific complaints. This allowed him to create procedures which stimulated the body to heal itself.
Tom taught six therapists his technique before he died in 1984. Bowen Therapy in several forms is now taught and practiced all around the world.
It is becoming widely recognised that many conditions respond faster with the Bowen technique than conventional Western medicine.
Improvements like increased range of movement and decreased pain often happen by the end of the treatment. Many physiotherapists and chiropractors now recommend and use Bowen in their normal practice.
